Greetings and Salutations to ASQ London Section members!

We had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Seck about social responsibility and how it is being adopted and improved by international organizations. We learnt that it is a multi-faceted issue which touches us everyday directly and indirectly. For example, Starbucks believes in being a responsible business and ethical sourcing of Fair Trade CertifiedTM coffee is one way it follows this.

Fair Trade is a different way of doing business. It's about making principles of fairness and decency mean something in the marketplace - to ensure the farmers and artisans behind those products get a better deal.

Ratan Tata who is Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons (a $100 Billion conglomerate) shared his thought on corporate social responsibility, which he believes doesn't mean just throwing away a percentage of profits. "CSR shouldn't be expressed in just giving money away for someone else to do. If you express  your concern by just making a deposit that someone else undertakes to do projects then I think it’s a very superficial expression of participating in social responsibility. Money itself doesn't make it happen..." It is about sharing and believing in doing the right thing.
