Greetings and Salutations to ASQ London Section members!

Brian Hughes - JMP EngineeringThe fall colors are coming out beautifully and reminding us about the beauty and splendor of nature. I hope you all are enjoying it. We had a great start to our monthly meetings in September. Brian Hughes from JMP Engineering spoke about how each one of us can use the research from Stephen Covey and Gallup's research to continuously improve ourselves. Her is a gist of the knowledge transfer that happened using Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Dr. Stephen Covey’s book as the basis

  1. Be Proactive – You have the freedom to choose your own fate and path, so having the independent will, imagination and self-awareness to make the right move makes you a proactive, and not a reactive, person.
  2. Create your goal & achieve it - Begin with the End in Mind – Visualize & Create
  3. Prioritize - Put First Things First – Important things first (Big rocks) & others (small rocks)
  4. Think Win/Win - "One person's success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of the success of others." – Covey
  5. Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood – Be a good listener which will help you become a good communicator
  6. Be open with your heart and mind to new possibilities allowing you to build trust
  7. Sharpen the Saw – Re-energize & renew yourself – sharpen your saw to progress further

First break all the Rules

Gallup Organization’s research found the key ideas that good managers recognize employees as they are – as individuals. Focus 80% of your time on the achievers and treat the people as they deserve to be treated. Use each person’s strengths to propel them forward which will allow an organization to excel at turning talent into performance and their employee morale.

I personally found them to be good reminder of the things that we can use in our lives to become more effective and help achieve our goals. I hope you will find this useful.

Prashanth
