September 2013 Message from the Chair

Welcome back to all ASMartin HettwerQ London Section 403 members. I hope your summer was lively and enjoyable.  As incoming chair I want to say thank you to Prashanth Vankayalpati and the entire volunteer executive team for their tremendous efforts, continued support and professionalism.  It is with pride that I tell you our executive volunteers share a common goal. To serve our section and the ASQ community by offering valuable events and a positive membership experience.

On Thursday September 12 we rejoin our regular monthly events schedule by offering an invaluable Back to Basics session on Failure Modes and Effects Analysis. Recall in the movie The Breakfast Club when John Bender shares his view on door hinge failures: Screws fall out all the time; the world is an imperfect place. We are pleased to present Denis Devos, a member and ASQ-Fellow, whom will lead us in this hands-on workshop on FMEA.
In October, we are pleased to announce that PMI SWOC will host an event on Product Branding and Competitive Edge.  All ASQ members and their guests are encouraged to attend our second joint membership event. For more section information please regularly visit www.asqlondon.on.ca and select the tab for upcoming meetings.

Certification and Education:

On Wednesday September 18 the Faculty of Regional and Continuing Education of Fanshawe College will gather to map out the Quality Assurance Program offerings for the next seven years. This is an important process as it sets the expectations for which instructional topics are to be offered locally to quality assurance professionals. The job market here in SWO is continually shifting and as students and employers I strongly encourage the ASQ membership to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Together let’s start to prepare the next graduating class of QA professionals for their roles in our industry and community. Are you aware that many of the current Fanshawe Quality Assurance Program course offerings are geared to assisting students in passing their ASQ certification exams?

Refresher Courses

Further, our ASQ London Section will continue to offer refresher courses to those individuals who wish to prepare for certification. Please let us know about your specific needs and interest in ASQ certification exam preparation.
I am truly honored and humbled to be the incoming Chair of ASQ London Section 403 for 2013-2014 and I thank you for your confidence and continued support. Our section members are the Voice of Quality in this region. We listen, we learn and we lead. Please join us at an upcoming event, we welcome you back.
