Guest Speaker: Geoff Sheerin, President and CEO of PLANETSPACE (alias Canadian Arrow)

Geoff Sheerin is founder and President of Canadian Arrow. Together with partner Dr. Chirinjeev Kathuria, they have formed the company PlanetSpace. They are projecting manned space flight as early as 2007 in their rocket called the Canadian Arrow. Geoff recently returned from Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he was part of a large group of rocket enthusiasts for the first ever meeting called “Countdown to the X Prize Cup”.

Geoff and his team has laid all of the necessary groundwork for his rocket . He will talk about some of the challenges he has faced in this frontier of Canadian research including:

* Overview of the project and how it got started
* Focus on development of rocket engine and some of the test that were performed
* Talk about the errors found in literature on the V-2 rocket and impact on quality control
* Discussion of future work and challenges they need to meet.

Overall the presentation will talk about the history of the Canadian Arrow project and the challenge of doing engineering archeology in the endeavor to rebuild a 1940's technology. The focus of the presentation will be on the engine development and the tests needed to be performed before the first burn was achieved. During the research into the rocket many errors were found in the history books and they needed to find and correct them before their main engine was ignited. The presentation will end with some of the goals and challenges left before the first flight of the Arrow.
