NEXT MEETING -

ASQ London Section 0403 presents….

Introduction to Design for Six Sigma (DFFS) with a Wine & Cheese Social

Thursday - January 11, 2006
6:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Location: Four Points Hotel by Sheraton (Kensington Room)
1150 Wellington Road South ·(just north of the 401 and across from the White Oaks Mall) London

Topic Description: In this dynamically changing world, product cycles are expected to last for just a few months. To meet these demanding requirements product developers have to develop products in the shortest amount of time that are safe, reliable, and competitive. Design for Six Sigma (DFFS) designs quality into a product. By assessing the variations that a product experiences during manufacture and use, it is possible to make a product that performs its intended function regardless of these variations; such a product is “robust” and therefore, Design for Six Sigma is sometimes called Robust Design.

In this presentation you will learn about:
1 the differences between Six Sigma and Design For Six Sigma,
2 the Six Sigma DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design, verify)
3 the approach to developing a new product from inception to production sign off.
4 product development tools and techniques such as Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), statistical tools, and Design of Experiment (DOE) that can help reduce the product development cycle. The problems facing most product developers is: Which tool do I use when?

Speaker: Joe DaSilva. Joe has been an active ASQ member since 1987. He holds CQA, CQE, and CQM certifications and as taught certification preparation courses. Joe has worked at 3M Canada since 1981 in product development and currently in the Quality department. 3M has invested in time and resources to educate all technical employees in the tools and techniques of Design for Six Sigma.
